How to Add Text-to-Speech to an InterACT Camera

InterACT Cameras include powerful deterrent capabilities and talk-down functionality when a trigger event occurs. One of the most useful features is the ability to add text-to-speech (TTS) resources, allowing cameras to deliver audible alerts or messages when specific events occur.

This guide walks through how to add, manage, and schedule TTS resources within the VIGIL CLOUD platform.

Text-to-Speech for InterACT Tutorial

What is text-to-speech and why it matters

Text-to-speech functionality enables cameras to actively respond to events in real time.

Common use cases include:

  • Deterrence messages for unauthorized access
  • Operational announcements during business hours
  • Automated alerts tied to analytics triggers

Because resources are managed centrally, you can apply consistent messaging across multiple locations without repeating setup.

Access the dealer portal

First, log in to the VIGIL CLOUD portal using your dealer credentials.

From there:

  1. Navigate to Customer Management.
  2. Then, select your organization or work at the dealer level.

Working at this level allows you to create resources that can be reused across multiple customer sites.

Navigate to the resource tab

Within Customer Management, select the Resources tab.

This section stores all reusable assets, including audio files and text-to-speech messages. If no resources exist yet, this is where you will create and manage them.

Add a new resource

To create a resource:

  1. Click Add Resource
  2. Choose the resource type

Available options include:

  • Audio files (WAV format only) for custom sounds or recordings
  • Text-to-speech messages for dynamically generated audio

Each resource becomes available for use in triggered actions once created.

Watch the tutorial:

Set up a text-to-speech engine

Before creating a TTS message, a voice engine must be installed. Otherwise, your TTS will not function properly.

You’ll be prompted to upload a file when selecting this option. Fortunately, voice models can be downloaded from the provided links or public folders such as the 3xLOGIC Public Downloads library.

Once uploaded, these engines enable the system to convert text into spoken audio.

Creating a text-to-speech message

After adding an engine:

  1. Select Text-to-Speech Message
  2. Enter your desired message
  3. Choose a voice model
  4. Save the resource

This message is now stored and can be reused across devices and configurations.

Editing existing resources

Existing resources can be modified at any time:

  1. Open the resource
  2. Update the message text
  3. Save changes

Configure device schedules

Scheduling allows you to control when a text-to-speech message plays.

For example, you can set them to play announcements during business hours, alert intruders after hours, and more.

Schedules ensure that messages are only triggered when appropriate.

Adjust schedule settings

Within the schedule, you can:

  • Add or remove active time blocks
  • Define when the message should play
  • Active periods are clearly indicated

This flexibility allows precise control over when audio resources are triggered.

Text-to-speech best practices

Follow these best practices to get the most out of your TTS features:

  • Keep messages short and clear for better comprehension
  • Test audio output before deployment
  • Avoid removing resources that are currently in use
  • Use scheduling strategically to reduce unnecessary alerts
