Your camera’s frame rate controls how many images are captured per second. A higher frame rate means smoother motion — essential for capturing fast events — while lower frame rates save storage but may miss important details.
Log in with admin permissions and select the camera you want to adjust. The preview window’s frame rate can be changed for setup convenience but does not affect recordings.
In the recording settings, you will see Set by Camera for IP cameras — this is what you want for normal operation. Time-lapse options here are only for special projects like construction monitoring.
Click Encoder in the network camera settings to find the actual recording frame rate controls. Choose your desired frame rate (e.g., 20 FPS instead of 15 FPS) and match the GOP (Group of Pictures) value to prevent playback stutter.
Click Push Settings to Camera to apply the changes.
Adjust the bitrate and quality for clearer images. Higher values improve clarity but increase storage use.
Adjusting frame rates in VIGIL ensures your cameras capture the right balance of detail, motion, and storage efficiency.
